TOP 15 INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2020

2020 is fast approaching which means that there are new design trends on the horizon! A new year means a fresh start not just for burning off all of those holiday calories, but it’s also the perfect time to revamp your home. If you’re trying to figure out what to do with your home next year, here are a few trends that Collected Interior Design firm believes will make their way into consumer homes within the next year.

Neutrals

Neutral colors will be in once again this upcoming year. What can we say? Neutrals come in pretty classic and serene shades, and most importantly, they’re not super busy. If you’re thinking, “Big whoop! Neutrals are so plain,” then you’re wrong for several reasons. Neutral colors are whites with cool or warm undertones. We’re primarily looking at shades of gray and beige. Our prediction for 2020 sees warm neutrals making their way in, while cool neutrals fade into the background. Don’t underestimate the power of neutral decor either. It’ll make an excellent choice for your walls, but they’re also great options for furniture including sofas and bedding. Collected Interior Design consultants can help you figure out how to do neutral the right way.

Velvet

Velvet may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s going to be steaming hot and trendy in 2020. It’s the perfect blend of luxury and comfort. When most people think of velvet, they’re often thinking about the old red velvet upholstery of yesteryear. This year and into the next, interior design firms are taking a deep dive into velvet design options, particularly for sofas. And, our color options are wider than ever. We’re talking vibrant blues, pinks, burnt orange and shades of taupe. The possibilities for velvet furniture in 2020 are endless.

Black and White Interior Designs

Black and white are the beginning and end of the color spectrum. They literally couldn’t be a starker contrast between colors., but the clash between light and dark is a gift from the interior design gods. There are millions of ways to incorporate this yin and yang trend into your home decor. Black chairs and sofas, white throw pillows, chevron print, black and white marble–there are so many textiles and pattern variations that marry these two colors. In 2020, interior designers can look forward to the endless possibilities for home decor that this black and white trend has to offer.

Geometric patterns

Geometric patterns have been on an upward trend for years now, so much so that you can find geometric patterned anything, anywhere. The only problem with geometric patterns being so popular is that it’s on everything–cups, notebooks, wallpaper, couches, bedding, art, floors, light fixtures, and other decor. It’s so easy to overdo it, but don’t expect geometric designs to be going away anytime soon. That’s why 2020 is all about geometric balance. You can still make a statement with bold and vibrant geometric patterns. Stick with more classic or contemporary patterns with chairs and throws. Pick an area of your home where you want the geometric pattern to make a bold statement. How about geometric bathroom floor tiles, or a thin-lined geometric wallpaper with a not so busy pattern? It’s all about being strategic, and if you’re looking for interior designers near Orlando, Florida to help, Collected Interior Design is a quality interior design firm servicing the Central Florida area.

There’s something regal, luxurious and comforting about canopy beds. A lot of our 2020 trends are about throwbacks. So is the case with canopy beds and tester canopies. One of the marvelous things about canopy beds is that it can create a serene environment within your room. Your bed becomes an oasis of style and comfort. Canopy beds are great in any bedroom, but you have to consider the size and frame of the bed to avoid the look becoming heavy-handed and bulky. For a tester canopy, you can choose to layer fabrics or incorporate, a light breathable fabric that still turns your ordinary bed into a lavish sleeping experience.

Biophilia DESIGN

Biophilia is a new trend that incorporates human design and natural elements in a way that doesn’t seem manufactured. In the past few years, our society has grappled with climate change and sustainability. A lot of consumers want to have a stylish home, yet it still incorporates organic elements from the environment. Interior design firms have heeded that call. Recycled wood can be used for chairs, tables, and floors while plants can contribute to your home’s organic aesthetic while still promoting a clean, environmentally friendly home. High tech homes were in, but 2020 is all about getting back and giving back to nature. Bedrooms and bathrooms are transformed into ethereal spaces created by using rich earthy elements including metals, wood, and stone.

Feminine tones interior Design

Interior design firms are pushing feminine tones straight through 2019 and into 2020 with variations of pink. These tones are all about different shades of pink, but they’re more subtle. Blush, millennial pink, bronze, taupe, and other light pink shades will work well in a neutral room.

Floral wallpaper

Floral fabrics and wallpaper are other throwback-turned-contemporary trends to look forward to in 2020. Florals have technically been around for a long time, but there’s a big difference between the floral interior design trends of 2020, and the old pink flowery wallpaper and furniture you might remember seeing in your grandmother’s home. No offense to Gram though! Traditionally, florals work well on wallpaper. Wallpaper trends today incorporate floral patterns of different sizes and color patterns. There is a strong attraction to vibrant colors like yellow and contrasting colors that will make your walls pop. The same is true today, but 2020 florals are an abstract chic rendition of this interior design classic.

Boldly patterned backsplash Design

One of the best ways to make your kitchen and bathroom stand out in the coming year is to incorporate a lively backsplash. 2020 is all about bold patterned tiles and colors. If you have someone over and they’re seemingly staring out into the distance, it’s not you. It’s the kitchen.

Mixed Metals interior Designs

Metals are going to be all over the place in 2020. We’re talking silver, gold, tin, and copper. Tin panels are predicted to be a popular backsplash option for kitchens. The mixed metal decor trend will also be pretty popular. Silver and brown metals will work well together, like iron and gold or bronze. Be careful not to mix more than three metals in one space, or your decor could become way too busy and overwhelming for one room. The right interior design firm can help you find balance.

Maximalism Designing

Minimalism is out and maximalism is in. While minimalism focuses on toning things down and making it simple and straightforward, maximalism is the complete opposite. Maximalism is about embracing the grandeur. Needless to say, interior designers are going to have a field day with this trend. Big, bold, bright colors and patterns, gaudy decor and colorful abstract paintings. It’s caring without actually caring. Of course, you’ll have to use some restraint. It’s easy to quickly leave bold and lively and tread into busy and cluttered. Regardless, we’ve gone from less is more to more is more.

The Return of Black

Black is back and bigger than ever! Interior design firms predict that “black everything,” from cabinets to sinks, paint, and countertops will be one of the top trends in 2020. Black walls, finishes, and furniture can make your home look high end and on-trend. One of the reasons black has been so off putting to consumers in the past is because there’s this assumption that black makes a room look smaller and it can feel a little claustrophobic. You can combat that problem by including contrasting colors. Earlier, we mentioned that black and white are going to be quite the couple in 2020. So splashes of white or some other light color will ease this concern. We’re looking forward to bold and matte blacks next year!

Green Accents

Green is such a fresh color, and as we embrace earth tones and sustainable home accessories, it only makes sense to incorporate splashes of green throughout your home. Here’s how to make it happen in 2020. True green plants add the perfect pop of color to a neutral-colored room. 2018 and 2019 saw a huge rise in the incorporation of succulents. While succulents may wane in popularity in 2020, Collected Interior Design firm knows that green is still going to be an important color next year. You can invest in rubber plants, money plants, or snake plants to incorporate some seriously rich greenery. The best thing about these plants is that they’re not super high maintenance. If you want to get in tune with green, you can try leaf-patterned bedding, wallpaper, paintings, or even splashes of solid green decor throughout your home.

Engineered Environment interior Design

The engineered environment trend is all about mixing two conflicting elements: technology and nature. Science and technology are used to create sustainable pieces that are as beautiful as they are good for the environment. It’s taking recyclables (used plastic, old wood, etc.) and giving them a new life in the consumer’s home. Since sustainable should not and will not go out of style, we’re pretty certain that scientists and interior designers will continue to team up to make beautiful home decor that Mother Nature can appreciate.

Earth Tones

Our final trend takes a look at earth tones. The colors and textures mimic that of wood, metals, and foliage found in nature’s most basic elements that are regularly used in the making of furniture and home accessories. Earth tones like rich forest greens, taupe, and clay colors create a natural look that creates a zen-like environment made for meditation and unwinding after a long day.

2020 is looking pretty bright literally and figuratively with wild colors, sustainable decor, and floral prints. Next year’s throwbacks will give us nostalgia, we’ll be one with nature, relax, and be bold with next year’s trends. Collected Interior Design firm is super psyched for the new year, and we can’t wait to make your interior design dreams come true!
